Dental implants are more popular than ever. If you’ve lost a tooth or multiple teeth, you may be interested in getting an implant.
But are you an ideal candidate?
Unfortunately, not everyone is. However, this doesn’t mean that you’ll never be a candidate. Many patients come into our Idaho oral surgery office and are told they aren’t a candidate yet. But we’ve also had some of these patients come back and it’s wonderful to see that they are now ideal candidates for this type of procedure.
How do you know if you’re an ideal dental implant candidate?
Who are the Best Candidates for Dental Implants from an Idaho Oral Surgery Office?
You are a good candidate for dental implants if you have the following circumstances:
1. You Have Plenty of Bone for an Implant
When a person loses a tooth, they progressively lose bone. In some cases, this can be . The best option is to get an implant within a year after losing the tooth. Plenty of healthy bone is left, and the body may be more responsive to a bone graft.
2. You Don’t Have Gum Disease
Gum disease can occur around an implant just as much as it can around a real tooth. If you don’t have gum disease, you’re an ideal candidate. If you do have gum disease, we recommend working with your dentist to get the disease under control before considering implants.
3. You Aren’t a Smoker
4. You are Committed to the Proper Care of the Implants
Dental implants need just as much care as regular teeth. If we learn that a patient is not committed to properly caring for the implant, we recommend they wait until they are. There’s a high likelihood that the implant will fail if the person doesn’t commit to proper dental care.
